Have you ever been listening to a song and all of a sudden its lyrics hit you like a pile of bricks?
That’s what happened to me last night. Earlier that day I was just scrolling through Facebook, and I was so heavy by all the struggles on my timeline. People left and right sharing memes that tell how they’re feeling on the inside. Relationships ending. People’s children turning into disappointments. Racism. Hate. Just heavy, heavy things.
I was feeling pretty weighty and just remembering my past and praising God for redemption. My heart aches for those people, my friends, family, old professors, and classmates to experience that same redemption. The lyrics went like this “Dear younger me, It’s not your fault. You were never meant to carry this beyond the cross.”
That’s the problem, we are carrying around burdens we were meant to drop at the feet of Jesus long ago. Carrying around stress about our children, money, the world, the president. God says in Psalm 55:22 Give your burdens to the Lord, and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
I hope this encourages someone today. I pray that you chose to stop trying to control every outcome and situation and just surrender. Surrender into the safety of Jesus’ embrace. Drop your burdens at the cross and experience peace that surpasses all understanding.
Thank you Ashley. I’m up at 3 in the morning struggling with a few personal and ministerial concerns. Right behind God’s word (1 Cor 15 & 1 Peter) is your note. Thank you for your transparency in Truth.

Awesome thoughts, Ashley!
