If you have an iPhone you know that you can get a glimpse daily of just how much time we spend on social media, and honestly it may come as a shock just how much time we do spend there.
I used to be a ‘die hard, try to limit social media-er’. I would set limits. I would fast. I would do all the things so I could get a hold of what I was consuming. All to ultimately end up right back absorbing it all. Because if I’m being honest, living away from family and being a stay at home mom I was lonely and desperate for community. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think that probably resonates with more than just me.
Today, I’m taking a different approach. I decided instead fighting against the giant of social media, and instead of complaining about how everyone else uses it negatively, I can be what I want to see there. I have every bit of power to make my social media a safe place for community. I can share and encourage others there. It can be harnessed and wielded to bring light and encouragement to meet people right where they are.
One of my affirmations this year was, “I will use my gifts and talents to encourage others”. So I’m using my social media to do just that. You may see me more often hopping over to love on all your posts, striking up conversations, or inviting you to hop in my challenge groups. I’m realizing connections are EVERYTHING, and who isn’t looking to connect with others?
I’m not too proud to admit when I’m wrong about something. So this is me sharing that I now see social media is a tool, and much like any tool it can be used for good or evil. We can fight it all day long, or we can embrace it and be who we and the people of the world nee from that platform.
